In January of 2023, your mom and I decided to celebrate the New Year by taking you two to Disneyland in Shanghai. After three long years of the Covid19 pandemic, the government of China finally lifted travel restrictions. So everyone was excited to be able to travel again! First, we would go to Zhuhai for warmer weather by the sea, then head to Shanghai for Disney right after.
The two of you were so good on the flight from Xi’an to Zhuhai. Blue sky and warm air greeted us when we arrived; we had to take off our jackets at the airport. On the ride to the Holiday Inn hotel, we saw glimpses of the South China Sea. It’s been a while since we’ve seen the ocean!
The next day, we went to the Chimelong Ocean Kingdom theme park, where we saw penguins, dolphins, and a whole bunch of aquatic animals and sea creatures. Ada’s favorite were the otters. Whenever she had a chance, she pretended to be a baby otter the rest of the trip!
In the evening, we met up with uncle Benny and auntie Yanna, who drove 2 hours from Foshan, a city north of Zhuhai, to come join us. The Cantonese style dinner at a restaurant next to the beach was delicious!
After dinner, we walked around the beach and enjoyed the outdoors food stands and small rides in the shopping plaza close by. Your mom was so tired from the day’s events, but she soldiered through and even bought you all coconut milk to drink!
The next day, we visited a small island near our hotel called “Ye Li Island”. It was so windy but the day was beautiful! We rented a 4 person quad-cycle and rode around the whole island, enjoying the view and stopping at some spots to take photos!
For the last day of the trip to Zhuhai, your mom and I decided we can stay at a more expensive hotel called Angsana that’s next to the beach. It was still too cold to swim in the ocean but they had a huge bathtub and a wonderful view of the ocean. There was even a small heated pool outside but only dad and Ada swam in it. Edison wanted to kick the soccer ball some more on the beach.
After four days in Zhuhai, it was time to pack up and head to Shanghai, our next leg of the trip. We really wanted to checkout Disneyland and see what Shanghai was all about!
